Link revises ATM fee plans as usage falls

ATM network operator Link has pulled back from a plan for a progressive ramping up of interchange fees after outrage from consumer groups over an apparent acceleration in ATM closures across the UK. In January 2018, Link announced a phased 20% per cent reduction in Interchange rates over four years, from around 25p to 20p. The first five percent cut took effect on 1 July 2018 and the second is scheduled to take place on 1 January 2019.

Beware Of Committing Harakiri By Lying With Big Data

“95% of banks in the study have created innovation labs.” This figure seemed extremely high to me. I did a quick-and-dirty survey of three banks in my circle. Not one of them has an innovation lab. Nevertheless, I couldn't conclude that the author of the post was lying because I couldn’t find evidence of the use of the three techniques to  lie with Big Data  that I described a couple of years ago. Nor could I spot any sleight-of-hand in his analysis.

How traditional players can close the gap on challenger banks

Earlier this year, Starling Bank and Monzo became the top two banks in terms of customer satisfaction in the UK, knocking incumbent First Direct from the number one spot[1]. Interestingly, this news coincided with a decline in interest in app-only start-up banks, with lack of trust being one of the key deterrents. In fact, trust in banks holding and maintaining privacy and security of personal information has increased from 31% globally in H1 to 42% in H2, while trust in new digital banks and financial service providers has declined, according to  RFi  Group’s latest half-yearly “Global Digital Banking Report”[2].
